The Role

Develop and mature glass and fiber‑optic assembly processes for new products, from early concept and proof of principle through NPI and production handoff.
Work hands‑on with high‑end fiber and glass processing equipment (e.g., cleaving, splicing, tapering), serving as the primary technical user responsible for learning, tuning, and advancing these processes.
Build and test fiber‑optic assemblies leveraging our proprietary photonic crystal fiber platform.
Design, execute, and analyze experiments to define robust process windows and tolerances.
Develop, iterate, and maintain clear process documentation to support optimization, repeatability, and transfer to production.
Troubleshoot complex process issues, drive root‑cause analysis, and implement improvements.
Work cross‑functionally to support knowledge transfer and production readiness.
Deliver effective process solutions within PDP timelines, balancing experimentation with repeatability.

The Individual

5+ years of experience in process or product development within photonics, optics, or a closely related field.
Strong background in optical fiber manufacturing or processing; experience with specialty or non‑standard fibers is a plus.
Experience with optical packaging and other precision assembly processes in controlled manufacturing environments.
Strong foundation in photonics and laser systems, including the use of laser sources to test fiber‑optic assemblies and support laser‑based applications.
Background in materials science, physics, or a closely related discipline relevant to optical fiber and glass materials.
Structured and methodical in approach, with a systematic mindset toward experimentation, data analysis, and process optimization.
High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality, repeatability, and manufacturability.
Persistent and resilient in tackling complex, hands‑on technical challenges, with the patience to learn, tune, and master sophisticated equipment.
Able to operate independently while collaborating effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
