Chief Physician of Orthopedic Surgery

Akureyri Hospital (SAk) is looking for a strong and visionary chief physician of orthopedic surgery. This is a full-time position. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced specialist to make an impact, lead professional work, and contribute to improvements in healthcare in rural areas.

We are looking for an individual with leadership skills who can provide professional leadership, coordinate different aspects of the operation, and contribute to continuous improvements in procedures. In addition to developing and advancing orthopedic surgery, the chief physician plays a crucial role in teaching and research.

It is a requirement that the candidate has a permanent residence in Akureyri.

Qualifications

• Icelandic medical license and valid specialist qualifications in orthopedic surgery
• Professional experience, academic knowledge, and teaching experience
• Leadership skills and ability to see opportunities for improvement and lead improvement work and changes
• Positive attitude, management and teaching skills, and communication skills
• Proactive and ready to create a positive and dynamic work environment
• Initiative and ambition to achieve success in the role
• Good proficiency in Icelandic and English, both spoken and written
• Clean criminal record
• Requirement for integrity, i.e., having a good reputation and that behavior and actions at work and outside it are compatible with the job

Tasks and responsibilities

• Provide professional leadership and lead the development of orthopedic surgery
• Responsible for professional work and contribute to improvements
• Support and lead staff in a challenging and exciting work environment
• Ensure quality of service and contribute to comprehensive teaching and research activities of the unit
• The chief physician is a leader and has a triple responsibility as a manager, i.e., professional responsibility, staff responsibility, and operational responsibility
