Join Our R&D Team as a Development Engineer – Optical Fibers

Are you ready to contribute to optical fiber development in a cutting-edge R&D environment focusing on fibers for submarine applications or fiber amplifiers and lasers? Look no further!

About Lightera Denmark

We are a global leader in developing and manufacturing top-tier optical fiber solutions for a diverse range of applications. From ultra-low loss transmission fibers for ocean cables to cutting-edge rare-earth doped fibers used in lasers, lidar systems, and amplifiers, our innovations shape industries worldwide. We are a front-runner in the work towards creating a more connected future, where data and knowledge is shared rapidly across the globe. With in-house production, we manage the full value chain, and our R&D team has a unique opportunity for a swift transition from ideation to production.

Welcome to our team

When you join our dynamic and motivated R&D team you will work alongside and collaborate with world-class specialists from diverse backgrounds, including engineers, physicists, and chemists. Moreover, as part of a global organization, our team works closely with colleagues across numerous sites worldwide, all dedicated to driving innovation in optical fiber technology. Our factory in Denmark has a flat company structure, and you will meet and collaborate with colleagues across all departments and positions.

Our R&D department is made up of 16 highly skilled colleagues representing a range of nationalities. The team enjoys each other’s company and often prioritizes having lunch together. Your manager, Bera Pálsdóttir, leads the department with a strong focus on both well-being and professional development. She is passionate and has many years of experience within fiber development at Lightera.

Your New Exciting Job

As a Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role in every stage of the innovation process, from conceptualization to product launch. We have two open positions, each specializing in either fibers for submarine applications or fibers for fiber amplifiers and lasers.

Your role will center on fiber design and improving our understanding of the design and the processes that create world-class optical fiber. You will face complex challenges daily within optical physics, materials physics and physical chemistry.

Our factory in Denmark logs large quantities of data on our production facilities, containing information on various processes, measurements and characterizations. This data will be available to you as a development engineer. This data is key to modelling our fiber designs and relating product quality to production processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and make prototypes of specialty fibers for lasers and amplifiers and other applications. This includes designing, building, and testing new measurement set-ups and methods.
  • Participate in fabricating prototypes of designs, thereby contributing to the entire development cycle - from concept and prototyping to products ready for customer testing.
  • Present your findings and engage in discussions with colleagues, while also documenting your work.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across various in-house functions to ensure alignment and progress.

What We Offer

  • Naturally, we do not expect you to be up and running from day one. To ensure your transition we offer a personalized onboarding and training program.
  • Salary based on qualifications, pension scheme, health insurance, and lunch program, among others.
  • Friendly and welcoming colleagues in an informal and agile organization that provides opportunities to participate in many social activities.
  • A supportive work environment as well as continuous development of your professional and personal skills, empowering you to thrive and succeed in your role.
  • The option for remote workdays – although you will probably miss all your great colleagues.

Qualifications

We imagine that our new colleague has the following qualifications:

  • Holds a master’s or PhD degree in engineering or a related technical field, within physics, material science, or similar subjects.
  • Experience and knowledge about optical fibers and/or optical waveguides is an advantage.
  • Demonstrates curiosity, adaptability, and a drive for tackling new challenges.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills for thriving in collaboration and global teams.
  • Exhibits a strong sense of responsibility towards their work, working in a structured and proactive manner while also embracing flexibility and innovation.
  • Is fluent in English, both spoken and written, for seamless cross-cultural collaboration and communication.

Finally, we expect you to be a strong team player - because we succeed together.
