Jobbeskrivelse

Do you want to have a real impact in the future of Biotechnology for the Green Transition? Then, this job is for you!

If you are an expert in data standardization and passionate about empowering scientific discovery, this role is tailored for you. Your expertise will be a cornerstone of BRIGHT’s data strategy, directly contributing to projects addressing world-level challenges. You will collaborate with world-class scientists in an international, flexible, and supportive environment at one of Europe’s leading research and education institutions.

The Informatics Platform is the digital backbone of our research institute, delivering cutting-edge data, software, and data science services to accelerate scientific discovery. Within this platform, the Standards Office is a lean, highly focused team dedicated to harmonization, quality, and scalability across the organization.

The job

We are seeking a Global Standards Project Manager to serve as the strategic architect of our data standards. In this role, you will define overarching informatics standards that align tightly with the institute's BRIGHT global strategy. Operating as an internal consultant and champion, you will bridge the gap between high-level strategy and hands-on research, fostering adoption across diverse research groups, departments, biofoundries, and external collaborators. If you are passionate about data integrity, cross-functional collaboration, and driving systemic impact in life sciences, this role is for you.

As the Global Standards Project Manager, you will be expected to:

  • Define and maintain global data, and operational standards that directly support and advance the BRIGHT global strategy.
  • Act as an internal consultant, helping diverse scientific and technical teams understand the long-term value of standardizing their data workflows.
  • Actively foster the implementation of agreed-upon standards across research groups, departments, biofoundries, and external partner teams.
  • Streamline and lead the onboarding process for new research initiatives, ensuring they are built on a compliant and standardized foundation from day one.
  • Work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and laboratory scientists to ensure standards are practical, impactful, and seamlessly integrated.

Our expectations of you

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, or a related field with a strong computational focus (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, ontologies, and data governance frameworks within a research or biotechnology setting.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience managing complex, cross-functional projects, preferably within an informatics, software, or data science environment.
  • Proven track record of acting as an internal consultant or advocate, successfully driving the adoption of new tools, standards, or methodologies across resistant or highly independent teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical standards into clear value propositions for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to see the "big picture" and align localized research workflows with overarching organizational goals (like the BRIGHT strategy).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working within or alongside research laboratories, biofoundries, or advanced scientific computing platforms.
  • Experience designing and executing onboarding processes or workshops to integrate new projects into established data ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and compliance standards relevant to scientific data.
  • Basic scripting or query skills (e.g., SQL, Python) for data extraction and integration.

What we offer in return

  • A vibrant, intellectually stimulating, and collaborative research environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development, certifications, and conference attendance.
  • A flexible working environment.
