About the position

You will primarily be responsible for handling of whole genome sequencing (WGS) data as well as developing and maintaining python scripts and various software to support the antimicrobial resistance surveillance tasks, thereby taking it to the next level.

The main tasks will be analyzing and reporting WGS results from the National surveillance, stream-lining of data pipelines and maintenance and development of existing SQL databases. These tasks, together with training activities within your areas of expertise, will be coordinated with data scientists, epidemiologist, medical doctors, IT experts and other colleagues both inside and outside Statens Serum Institut.

Your responsibilities will include supporting bioinformatics expertise to the surveillance of antimicrobial resistant microorganisms, development and maintenance of bioinformatic pipelines, and design and conduct training.

Education, experience and personal qualifications

  • You have a master's degree in Bioinformatics and you have several years of experience working with bioinformatics gained during a PhD or other.
  • Experience in using Unix and Python. Preferable programming skills in Python and R
  • Experience in analyzing whole genome sequence bacterial data using bioinformatic tools
  • Experience in development of bioinformatic pipelines for WGS data
  • Experience with design and conduct of bioinformatic training exercises in the field of microbiology and antimicrobial resistance
  • Knowledge with database structure, Microsoft Access and SQL
  • Knowledge within the field of microorganisms and antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

You are diligent about good software practices, including documentation, and keen to do some system administration and user support tasks. Bioinformatics pipelining of WGS data from Illumina and Nanopore sequencing platforms is a bonus.

You are good at identifying issues and proposing solutions, and enjoy learning new skills as part of your job. Furthermore, you have strong communication skills and you are open to multi-cultural environments.

You are reliable in conducting your tasks and take responsibilities to ensure that deliverables are timely and of high quality.

Terms of employment

Depending on your educational background and level of experience, salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten).

The position is limited to two years.
