Visiting Companion Sought for Male Citizen in Handicap Center Funen

At Handicapcenter Fyn we are in need of volunteers who will help give our citizens the opportunity for good experiences. Citizens have many different wishes for the volunteer's efforts. We try to adapt the citizen's wishes to the skills, wishes and limits that you have.

Currently we are specifically looking for a visiting friend for a male citizen. He has a close relationship with his family, but is also at a point in his life where he is looking for a visiting friend. He is a wheelchair user.

His interests include having stories read aloud, going for walks in the local area, playing music and other quiet activities. He is open to other activities and in collaboration with you, your relationship can be strengthened through this.

For you, meeting a citizen can be meaningful in that you experience being a welcome guest in another person's life.

As a new volunteer, you may not have experience working with people with disabilities and/or developmental disabilities. This is no obstacle. Everyone is welcome as a volunteer at Handicapcenter Fyn and we make sure that you are well prepared for the task before you start.

As a volunteer at Handicapcenter Fyn, you will have the opportunity to:

• Have a lot of happy and positive experiences together with a person with a developmental disability.
• Develop yourself and your relational skills and experience with social work.
• Join a volunteer community where you can expand your own network.
• Get something to write on your CV.

We would love to hear from you if you have the desire and time to volunteer at Handicapcenter Fyn. This also applies even if it is not exactly a visiting friend that you would like to be. We have many people who would like to have contact with another person, and we have many different wishes for this interaction. You can volunteer in many different ways: For the benefit of the individual citizen or a group of citizens/a department. It can be a close contact or more peripheral.
We also have requests for more practical help, ranging from updating social media, to washing bicycles or something completely different that you would like to contribute.

Handicapcenter Fyn offers accommodation, activities and social services for children and adults with significant and permanent disabilities. The services are targeted at people with:

• developmental disability
• autism
• brain injuries
• epilepsy or other long-term disorders
• Prader Willi, Rett, Angelmann and other syndromes

The center is located on several land plots in Nyborg, Odense and Kerteminde.
