Our IT organization plays a key role in supporting mission-critical Navy and Defence projects by delivering secure, reliable, and compliant IT infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Administrator (m/f/d) to manage and secure IT infrastructure for Navy and Defence operations. In this role, you will take end-to-end responsibility for server, virtualization, network, and cloud environments, ensuring high availability, security, and compliance for mission-critical systems.
You will work closely with internal Navy project teams, IT stakeholders, and external vendors to design, deploy, and operate secure hybrid infrastructures. In addition to infrastructure ownership, you will act as a key technical contact for Navy projects, supporting server configuration, patching, and system hardening across both infrastructure and application layers.
This role requires a hands-on technical expert with strong ownership, security awareness, and the ability to operate confidently in regulated defence environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain on-prem infrastructure including VMware/vCenter and Proxmox virtualization platforms for Navy and commercial environments
- Design, implement, and operate secure network architectures (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs) for defence-grade systems
- Manage Azure cloud infrastructure and hybrid integrations between on-prem and cloud environments
- Oversee server, storage, and database environments, including backup, recovery, and performance optimization
- Plan and execute patch management for infrastructure and applications, ensuring security compliance and operational continuity
- Enforce data security, access control, and governance in line with defence and compliance requirements
- Configure and maintain security components such as NATO-approved firewalls (e.g. Fortinet)
- Collaborate with project teams, vendors, and application owners to assess requirements and implement technical solutions
- Maintain clear technical documentation and provide reporting on system health, security posture, and compliance status
- Act as primary technical support contact for Navy projects related to server configuration and updates
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in server, virtualization, and network administration
- Strong expertise in VMware, vCenter, Proxmox, and virtualization technologies
- Solid experience with Azure cloud administration and hybrid IT architectures
- Strong understanding of secure network design, firewalls, VPNs, and defence-grade IT environments
- Experience with patch management, high availability, and disaster recovery planning
- Knowledge of IT security, governance, and compliance frameworks relevant to defence projects
- Ability to work independently on complex technical topics and take full ownership
- Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Professional English proficiency (written and spoken)
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance for Navy and Defence projects
