Become our new Chief Data Engineer/Architect & Chapter Lead (HR Responsible) – Shaping the evolving landscape of data at Danske Bank
Danske Bank’s Personal Customers business unit is undergoing a major transformation to create a better banking experience for all our customers. A solid, sustainable, and secure data foundation is at the core of this transformation, enabling us to reach the ambitious Forward ’28 goals introduced in 2023. As part of this exciting journey, we are looking for an experienced Chief Data Engineer/Architect & Chapter Lead with expertise in data and leadership to help shape the next generation of banking services.
About the role
You will join the Customer Engagement Individuals Tribe, which is at the heart of ensuring a customer-centric approach. The tribe manages key customer-facing systems across Danske Bank’s channels and capabilities, with data as a critical enabler for delivering timely, relevant, and personalised advice.
As Chief Data Engineer/Architect & Chapter Lead, you will:
- Lead the creation of a data platform that supports Danske Bank’s transformation and forms the backbone of innovative banking services.
- Act as a thought leader for data engineers, guiding end-to-end data solutions from sourcing and modelling to productionising and ensuring compliance.
- Take on HR responsibility for our skilled data engineers, focusing on their growth, wellbeing, and performance.
- Work within a diverse and international team of data analysts, engineers, software developers, architects, and more, spread across Denmark, Lithuania, India, and beyond.
Your work will enable Danske Bank to deliver high-quality customer products and support our digital transformation aligned with the Forward ’28 strategy.
Your responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Be a thought leader and sparring partner for data engineers, inspiring innovation and problem-solving.
- Own HR responsibilities, including coaching, development, performance discussions, and ensuring job satisfaction and collaboration within your team.
- Design and drive solutions through best-practise methodologies across the E2E data pipeline.
- Help drive forward the Data Mesh strategy and ensuring data scalable and efficient data practises adhering to group wide technical frameworks.
- Define principles for and connect to group wide tools for documentation, cataloguing, lineage, compliance and data transparency.
- Collaborate with system and data owners across the organisation to enable data availability and ensure compliance with governance, security, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ensure modern & scalable ETL and integration practises including event-streaming (e.g. Kafka) and modern APIs across both legacy and modern tooling.
- Drive adoption of new technologies and foster continuous growth and learning within your team.
About you
We are looking for an experienced professional who:
- Has extensive experience in data engineering, including building and managing data platforms, ensuring compliance, security, and scalability in financial services.
- Has proven leadership skills with a track record of coaching, developing, and managing highly skilled teams.
- Had proven experience with data architecture and has clear opinions about methodologies and application of these
- Possesses strong technical expertise in relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL), cloud environments, and big data technologies.
- Is highly proficient with integration tools such as Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, AWS Glue, or Azure Data Factory.
- Has hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and a strong understanding of DevOps practices, including continuous integration/delivery.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of supportive tooling for lineage, cataloguing, masking, compliance, and data governance.
- Is fluent in English (written and spoken) for effective collaboration across diverse teams.
